Mentorship
WiSA Mentorship
The WiSA Mentorship Programme facilitate engagement between senior surgeons with experience in the field and junior surgeons/surgical trainees. The WiSA Mentorship Programme is a career development initiative that provides an opportunity for surgeons to learn from one another, influence their work environments, develop their skills and seek/offer guidance as required.
How it Works
WiSA pairs mentors and mentees for a minimum of one year, with a monthly time commitment of just 1.5 hours. A short induction training is provided at the start of the program. Mentees are responsible for initiating the first conversation, and each pair is encouraged to set a goal for the year.
Mentor/mentee pairs can choose their preferred method of communication (email, phone, video, or in-person). WiSA will provide ongoing support and check-ins. An online exit survey will be available for mentor/mentee pairs to complete at the end of their year-long experience. This survey will be administered towards the end of November 2016. At the end of the year, participants are invited to complete a short exit survey. They may then choose to continue informally, re-enroll, or step away.
