A Career Development Initiative for African Women Surgeons
Hello Women Surgeons!
Are you interested in joining a brand-new career development programme created specifically for African women surgeons?
Collective Wisdom in Action (CWiA) is a collaborative initiative of the Association of Women Surgeons (AWS), Women in Surgery Africa (WiSA), the Pan African Women’s Association of Surgeons (PAWAS), and Yale University. Through mentorship, leadership development, and peer learning, CWiA aims to support and connect women surgeons across Africa at every stage of their careers.
Are you planning to attend the COSECSA Conference in Lilongwe, Malawi (December 2–4, 2026)?
If so, we invite you to apply to join the inaugural Collective Wisdom in Action programme. Women surgeons at all career stages are encouraged to apply.
The programme will begin with a half-day, in-person symposium on 1 December 2026, immediately before the COSECSA Conference in Lilongwe, Malawi. This will provide an opportunity to meet fellow participants, programme faculty, and mentors as we launch the first CWiA cohort. Selected participants will receive up to USD 500 to support travel and attendance.
The symposium will be followed by a six-month programme consisting of twice-monthly, 90-minute live virtual sessions focused on leadership and professional development. Participants will also have opportunities to help shape the programme, as well as future iterations of it, while becoming part of a growing network of women surgeons across Africa.
Interested? Apply here.
Application Due Date: 27 July 2026
Future cohorts will be launched alongside major regional surgical meetings, with the next Meet & Greet planned during the WACS Annual Conference.
